Period products (i.e. pads and tampons) are a basic, absolute, and constant hygiene need - equivalent to toilet paper. In fact, 86% of women have started their period in public without the supplies needed. And 1 in 3 low-income women has missed work, school or other outings because of a lack of period supplies. Employees can’t do their best work when they’re worried about access to hygiene resources. Customers won’t be satisfied with your services or products if they’re worried about the stress of finding a pad or tampon when a sudden need arises. Providing complimentary period supplies makes great business sense, and is just the right thing to do!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is period poverty?

Period poverty is the lack of access to period products and education. We believe fighting period poverty is one of the most tangible steps we can take toward gender equality.

What is Aunt Flow's mission?

Aunt Flow's mission is to fight period poverty and stigma. Alongside ensuring that businesses and schools offer free period products for employees and students, our donation program supports activist-led pilot program initiatives and various grassroots nonprofit organizations.

What are ways I can get more involved in the menstrual movement?

Aunt Flow believes in a multifaceted approach to achieving menstrual justice, including service, education, research, advocacy, and investment.

  1. Organize menstrual product drives and fundraisers in your community to collect and donate pads and tampons to local shelters and food pantries.
  2. Lead educational workshops in your community about menstruation, sustainable menstrual products, and destigmatizing menstruation.
  3. Apply pressure to policymakers, decision-makers, and local leaders, advocating for policies that improve access to menstrual products and education.
  4. Ask your school to include menstruation and menstrual health as part of the educational curriculum. In fact, 77% of students believe there needs to be more in-depth education about menstrual health.
  5. Conduct and support more peer-reviewed research assessing the prevalence and health implications of period poverty. This data is important for supporting more grassroots advocacy efforts.
  6. Urge schools and businesses to invest in high-quality menstrual products free of cost for everyone.
How much do we need to budget for?

We recommend estimating product quantities based on supplemental, as-needed period product usage at approximately 5 pieces per menstruator per school year. You can use our pricing calculator or meet with an Aunt Flow Happiness Developer to get a custom quote that includes our reduced educational pricing for a quick budget estimate. For a one-time individual donation request, apply to our donation program.

Which bathrooms should we stock?

We recommend stocking every female-identified, all gender, and male-identified bathrooms with period supplies.

Will people take more than they need?

If your business or workplace offers toilet paper for free, then advocate to your facilities team to prioritize budgeting for freely accessible period products too. When dispensers are first installed in bathrooms, there could be higher than normal usage, which then levels out over time once people learn that period products are not just a one-time luxury item but will be available ongoing.

"Providing free period products may seem like a small change, but it’s made a big impact—eliminating stress, promoting inclusivity, and showing that we truly care about the well-being of our employees and visitors. I’m beyond blessed to have been a part of this amazing initiative for our company. No one should have to worry about being caught off guard without the essentials they need, and it’s incredible to work for a company that truly values accessibility and dignity for all."

"As a longtime healthcare and reproductive justice advocate, I am proud the County of San Diego has not just heard this call but is the first known county government in the nation to take concrete action to support the menstrual equity movement"

"I’ve been a fan of Aunt Flow for many years ever since I was an intern at Paramount. Once they switched over to Aunt Flow products it was immediately noticeable and honestly a blessing especially when I was spending 5 days a week in the office at the time. Having great quality period products available whenever I needed it meant I no longer worried about bringing my own to work. After returning to Paramount in my current role, I was really excited to see that the building continued to provide Aunt Flow products in restrooms (not gonna lie, that was definitely a pro of starting a job here again). Before Aunt Flow, I had no idea that period products could provide support and be THIS comfortable. This brand changed the game for me and I’m so glad Aunt Flow exists!"

- Audrey Lew

Marketing & Operations, Paramount

"These were available at a WeWork that I frequent, and they were great! The synthetic fibers from other brands make me itchy, and this was the first time I felt comfortable. I believe all women in schools and office spaces should have access to high-quality, organic period products. Thank you for designing a product that is safe and keeps women's health at the forefront of your mission."

- Carolina A.

Visitor, WeWork

"I requested Aunt Flow in my office because I knew that my company was working towards supporting employees (especially females), there was a strong focus on sustainability, and my office offers free coffee... In my opinion, any place that offers coffee should offer menstrual products in the bathrooms. The Aunt Flow team made it easy for me to advocate and simple for my company to implement. Within one month, my menstrual needs were met because my company rolled out Aunt Flow in all the bathrooms!"

Hi! I’m Claire. I founded Aunt Flow after getting my period in public without the supplies needed.

At 18 years old, I dedicated my life to developing a solution to ensure businesses and schools could sustainably provide quality period products, for free, in bathrooms. Our products are made with organic cotton and we are constantly working to reduce our environmental impact! Since 2021, we've donated MILLIONS of period products to menstruators in need. I call this people helping people. PERIOD.®
