How Do You Put a Tampon In?

December 12, 2023

Aunt Flow is on a mission to bring our high-quality tampons to the masses! Whether this is your first period or you’re an experienced menstruator, here are some helpful reminders before we dive into how to insert an applicator tampon:

Step 1

Sit on the toilet with your knees apart. Remove the outer paper wrapper of the tampon.

Step 2

Hold the applicator tampon in one hand. With the string hanging down, insert the outer tube of the tampon at a slight angle towards your back. Slide the applicator all the way in. Push the inner tube all the way into the outer tube until the ends of both tubes are even.

Step 3

Firmly hold onto the outer tube and pull it out gently, leaving the tampon inside of your body and the string hanging outside, ready for removal.

Step 4

Toss the tube into the trash. NEVER flush the tube or tampon down the toilet!

TIP: Move the tampon string to one side of your underwear so that it’s easy to locate for removal.

TIP: If you insert your tampon correctly, you should not feel it. If you do feel it, use your finger to wiggle the tampon around so that it’s in a comfortable position.

Reminder: Toxic Shock Syndrome is a rare but serious disease sometimes associated with tampon use. Warning signs include flu-like symptoms. If you’re experiencing this, remove your tampon and contact your doctor immediately.
