Nebraska has just passed Legislative Bill 1284, which includes a provision to establish a pilot program for free and accessible period products to be provided in a small number of schools for the 2025-26 school year.
The bill was first introduced on January 16, 2024, by State Senator Lynne Walz. It was officially approved by Governor Jim Pillen on April 16.
Legislative Bill 1284 also includes:
- A Dyslexia Research Grant Program
- A professional learning system relating to instruction in reading
- A statewide computer science education expansion program
- Changes in provisions relating to school psychologists and certain scholarship programs
“This bill is so important to make sure that we are meeting the ever-changing needs of our students, teachers and parents,” Walz said during a debate.
